Artist's Comments

This portrait was taken by myself while on vacation, touring downtown Ottawa.

I'm really pleased with this picture, since I think it brings out his natural sexiness, what with the use of natural lighting and such.

I don't know why, but I am really fond of this photo.

Model is my fiance, Liam - ~Aurim. Taken in August with my Minolta Maxxum 4.

Horribly intrusive watermarks are tacky. If you're concerned about people stealing your photos, don't post them on the internet.

Photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event. (HCB)

I have some theories as to why you like this so much...and I will resist the urge to just say sex and be done with it.

It breaks rules of photography in ways that reinforce the rules, a paradox, but I will rant on. You see, all the buildings in the background have created perspective lines that lead the eye to smack Liam in the face, thus you feel really drawn to it. This can point out the broken rule, of generally trying to avoid placing your subject into the centre of the image, however there is an illusion that he is not, as the buildings to the left are overlapped by his face, making the space between his face and the right seem more prominent. Then for added drama, he is standing at an angle that is opposite to the strongest area of perspective, the buildings on the left, which help to make him really stand apart from the image, which is only enhanced by your blurring of the background. Basically, you have given the image what I call "Boom!"
